16 Things
via bthny: 16 “random” facts about me
1. I have a mild obsession with giant squids. It blows my mind that somewhere out there is an animal SO big that if we cut its head up widthwise and deep fried it, the calamari would be the size of TRACTOR TIRES.
2. I’m known for wearing large and flashy earrings, something which has maybe come to influence the way i get dressed in the morning to my detriment.
3. I was born in west Texas and lived there until I was 8, then moved to Chicagoland, finally coming to Oregon when I was 12. I like it best out here, but there are spots in Texas that I love/miss and every time I go to Austin it’s hard for me to leave
4. My dad has worked in sporting goods my whole life, which has left me with an odd collection of things that includes a baseball mitt made out of kangaroo leather and commemorative pins and keychains from 4 superbowls
5. I’m a very good cook, and whenever I start to get down on myself about school, I fantasize about quitting and starting a restaurant or becoming a chef. I’m guilty of reading Chowhound and Serious Eats during class
6. I hate wearing pants. I wear them more frequently than I used to (I didn’t own a pair of jeans from my sophomore year in college [2003] to last May), but I prefer skirts and dresses.
7. I danced on stage at the Dismemberment Plan’s [EPIC, requests-only] last show in Portland.
8. I am almost 6’1” and am (slowly) starting to wear 3”+ heels. I put on a pair of platforms yesterday and smacked my head on my ceiling fan.
9. The accountant at my last job broke my perceived notions on accountants by being one of the coolest people I have ever met (hey Greg), and I thank him for getting me going on ELO, Fleetwood Mac and ABBA, three bands which I had a random distaste for before.
10. Speaking of random distaste, I dont like hollandaise sauce. Not because I don’t think it tastes good (oh, it’s good), but I just kind of refuse to eat it.
11. Every morning, I have a poached egg with Tapatío, a piece of toast with butter, a piece of seasonal fruit, and a cup of coffee.
12. In high school, I found a picture in a textbook of a random guy, probably someone’s uncle or something, and held onto it. Last year, my roommate and I blew this picture up into a poster, hung it by our door, and created a personality for this guy, whose name (to me) is Ronald Donald. The picture is now in a frame on my nightstand.
13. I feel I have a special connection with rapper Mac Dre because he died on my 21st birthday.
14. Once I won $75 at bingo.
15. I’m thankful the “Jailblazers” era of Portland professional basketball is over, but damn, I do love me some Rasheed Wallace. That man is fierce.
16. I’m really, really, really glad I decided not to get my MFA in poetry.
